I was never one for nature programmes but I used to drop everything to run and watch Steve. Loved his show, was affected by his infectious enthusiasm, learned so much as a result of his work. When I learned of his death, I was surprised by my own sense of loss: I was genuinely struck, as though I had lost a friend. One year on, I still think that the world is a poorer place without him - but I think that a person that makes you feel that way could leave no greater legacy. Since watching his programmes, I find myself saying "Crikey!" every time I'm surprised (I've been influenced on all levels :-) ) and when I do, I smile to myself and think of Steve. A great man. A great loss.

Steve Erwin was certainly an insperation to us !! My wife and I were walking on a beach in York, ME last night and came across a stingray. He'd been left stranded on the beach in the receding tide and couldn't make it back to the water on his own. It was dark and we were the only one's out there. We got some toy shovels with long handles and a large cooler from a nearby store. After much careful / cautious work we were able to return the stingray to the ocean where it swam away. We were both fans of Steve Erwin and were very sadned by his passing. We talked about Steve and the Erwin family a lot on our ride home that night. We think that Steve would have been pleased with our efforts. I think part of Steve's message was consveration and appreciation of all wildlife, not just the one's that "can't hurt us".. At any rate, My wife and I would like to dedicate last nights rescue in honor of Steve Erwin.... Thanks for teaching us so much. We miss you Steve !!
