I was shocked when I heard that the great Steve Irwin had died. I thought he was invincible and I loved his shows week in and week out. He was a passionate man with a lot of love for animals and the wild, and he always seemed like a genuine friendly bloke.
I am very sorry on behalf of Terri and the kids; I know this must be the hardest thing in the world.
I will definitely miss Steve, who I consider a real life hero. Rest In Peace mate.

Terrie, I wish that I could take away your pain. You and your family have been such a blessing to us and millions of others. We mourn your loss.
Our daughter is just a few months younger than Bindie. We feel like we've watched them grow up together. You and Steve have played a key role in developing her love for animals. She says that she wants to be a vet and she plays like she wrestles aligators.
Our prayers are with you, Bindi, little Bob and all of your friends and family.
God's Peace!!!

There are very few good role models for fathers in our culture. We have a lot of boys and girls suffering for lack of an involved father, and a lot of men feeling hollow in their pursuit of material success, missing out on the joys of being involved with their children. Whatever else Steve Irwin was -- and he was many wonderful things -- he was the best role model we had of how to be a dad. He was so ENTHUSIASTIC about his kids, his wife, his family -- he kept them close to him at all times and showed them off at every chance he got. He had a platform to say something to the world, and a huge part of what he wanted to say was "look at my kids, aren't they great! I don't want to be away from them for a minute, so they're here with me now...." I miss THAT more than anything else. I miss Steve the conservationist and the educator and the entertainer, but damn, more than anything else, I miss Steve the dad. He was a role model to me on how to be a father. I can't really say that about any other celebrity I can think of...he was the only one.
I miss him.
I mourn for Terri and thier beautiful children. I try to be as involved in my kids' lives, and as ENTHUSIASTIC about my family, as Steve was. Not to discount his conservation message -- he was a tremendous spokesman for that, and I miss him for that as well. But he was the single best role model of fatherhood I found in our celebrity-obsessed culture because e was so in love with his kids and made no attempt to pretend anything else...and that's what I miss the most, and what I carried away from the experience of having watched him, even from a distance.
